Some of the most meaningful moments on campus begin with something as simple as a table, a smile, and an invitation to stop by. Every Jewish community starts somewhere. More often than not, it starts with a conversation.

That's why the Jewish Grad Organization (JGO) equips student leaders across North America with the resources they need to table on campus, helping them introduce Jewish grad students to the communities waiting for them.

At the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, that simple formula made a big impact.

As the school welcomed its newest class this summer, the Jewish Student Dental Association (JSDA) hosted a table at the student organization fair to meet incoming students and reconnect with returning members before the new academic year.

For a club of about 15 students, meeting three or four new first-year students is a meaningful win. Several students shared that they were excited to discover there was a Jewish community specifically for dental students, something they weren't sure would exist when they began grad school.

To help the table stand out, JGO overnighted stickers, pins, buttons, snacks, and other giveaways that quickly became conversation starters, drawing students in and making it easier to spark new connections.

"The snacks, stickers, and pins provided by JGO totally enhanced our tabling experience!" said student leader Mia G. "It brought so many people to our table and made us feel super excited for the upcoming year for JSDA!"

Those conversations are already turning into community. Next week, the club will kick off the year with a happy hour, welcoming both new and returning members as they begin another year together.

Sometimes, all it takes is one table to help someone find their Jewish community.
