Erik G. Wexler is President, Operations and Strategy - South for Providence, with oversight over the health organization's hospitals and other facilities in California, New Mexico and Texas. This vast region, representing roughly half of the Providence operations, has 27 hospitals  and more than 40,000 employees, called"caregivers."

Mr. Wexler joined the organization in May 2016 as regional chief executive for Providence Southern California and worked closely with Providence Health & Services leadership as it united with Orange-County based St. Joseph  Health to form a new organization, Providence, with headquarters in Renton, Wash., and Irvine,  Calif.

Mr. Wexler is committed to providing seamless, consumer-driven quality care for the communities across the three states, from choosing primary care providers to hospital visits to specialty care and all auxiliary services involved in the health journey. He seeks to identify best practices that can be deployed across Providence in the quest to expand access to quality and affordable health care.

As a leader, Mr. Wexler is a servant leader focused on quality, safety, patient experience,  caregiver satisfaction and operations through innovative evidence-based protocols. The results  include national honors for overall quality care as well as for individual key specialties including  cancer, heart, orthopedics, women's services and neurology. Following social unrest in 2020, he  committed with passion to addressing health inequity experienced by communities of color.

Formerly the chief executive for Tenet Healthcare's Northeast Region, Mr. Wexler said he was  drawn to Providence primarily because of its mission focus. Mr. Wexler spent five years with  Tenet, most recently as chief executive for Tenet's Northeast Region where he oversaw  operations in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and. He also worked for Vanguard Health Systems,  and prior to that was senior vice president of LifeBridge Health System.  

Mr. Wexler has experience in serving large, diverse and dynamic communities and leading  organizations toward the future of health care. He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology  and master's in business administration from the University of Hartford in Connecticut.
